The Icom IC-705 is a fine radio, but not without flaws, among which are these two:
- It uses a USB Micro-B connector, which is fragile and less convenient than USB-C.
- Extremely low current transistors were used for the Tuner/Amp control ports, so they frequently fail in typical use.
In order to remedy this, the folks at ihelpu.tech have designed and sell a replacement SEND board designed for the IC-705. I purchased this and followed the installation guide from that page. Everything went approximately as expected, with the one exception that the screws are Pozidrive screws, not Philips as claimed in the instructional video at time of writing. Attempting to use a Philips driver on these Pozidrive screws will quickly strip them, which is a deeply unpleasant experience.
